September 2023 Meeting Minutes

This month’s meeting was hosted by Tom who was gracious enough to provide us with lots of munchies as well as lasagna. This certainly helped with all the dark and heavy beers that were shared. There were 23 beers (13 homebrew) with 10 club members in attendance. We had several standout homebrews tonight but one that got Kudos from most members was a Marshmallow Bochet (caramelized honey mead) brought by a new member, Jason.

Some topics we covered at the meeting included:

Oktoberfest Party & Potluck & Mini club competition – We’ll have our yearly Oktoberfest party, potluck and mini club competition for Marzens and Festbiers on Sunday, October 15th @ 4:00pm at Brandon’s house (917 Placita Chaco). The Oktoberfest party will take place of our monthly meeting. I’ll have the grill fired up for brats and any other grillables you want to bring. Please feel free to contribute other German inspired food, or food in general that’s good for sharing. We’ll have a new email chain going about this as it gets closer to the meeting.

Social Night – Our next social night will be Wednesday October 11th @ 6pm at Second Street – Rufina Taproom (2920 Rufina Street). Bring friends, family members, coworkers, etc and come by any time around 6 to hang out for as long or as little as you’d like.

Club Barrel Project – I’m still waiting to hear back from Santa Fe Spirits about when we can pick our barrel up. Last week they had mentioned that it should be ready this week… so we’ll see. Once we get the barrel we’ll figure out if it’s too late to add to the barrel this weekend or if we need to wait.

Whisky Sampling Night – As the weather’s cooling off and the days are getting shorter, sipping on some whisky feels more and more perfect. There was some discussion about having a whisky sampling night where we can share and sample various whiskeys. If anyone wants to take the lead on this, please speak up!

Apple Harvesting and Pressing – David R. mentioned that there will be a big apple pressing event taking place in Los Alamos. If you’re looking to make some cider (alcoholic or not), this is a great chance to get some fresh pressed cider. I don’t remember which weekend exactly he mentioned, but he can follow up with more information.

Upcoming Local Events:

Custom Club AHA Renewal

I signed us up for the AHA referral program which gives our club a $5 kickback whenever someone joins or renews their membership through our custom link and enters SDCCB as the code. If you’ve let your membership lapse or haven’t signed up before, I’d encourage you to do so. You can find our custom URL here: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/support-the-aha/?promo=Sangre-de-Cristo-Craft-Brewers (note: you will still need to enter SDCCB as the code when you’re at that point in the sign up process).
