We had another night with a big assortment of fantastic beers. In total, we had 26 beverages (24 beers, 2 meads), with 12 of those being homebrew. Eric ended the evening with a special toast and the opening of a bottle of Schramm’s Red and Black Currant mead. The two homebrewed hazy IPAs seemed to get a resounding top pick in the kudos round.
Some topics we covered at the meeting included:
Upcoming Meetings – I messaged SFBC about switching our monthly meetings to the third Tuesday of each month in an effort to take advantage of the party room without any conflicts. I’m still waiting to hear back about that and I’ll let the club know what the result is. For now, we’re still set to meet on Wednesday January 17th for our next meeting.
Next Club Competition – We’ll plan on having our next club competition in February 2024 (note: we had previously said January, but we’re moving it to February) and the style will be lower ABV British beers – BJCP 2021 categories Ordinary Bitter (11A), Best Bitter (11B), or Dark Mild (13A)
Whisky tasting – We’re going to plan on having a whisky tasting in late February. We’ll have more details as the time gets closer, but this should be a fun evening to sample various whisky styles!
Saison / Belgian Competition – We may lean toward doing a Saison competition for our May or June meeting and see if we can get some pro brewers who specialize in Farmhouse or Saisons to act as expert judges.
WinterBrew 2024 – WinterBrew is happening again! This year it’ll be on Friday, January 26th from 6-9pm at the Railyard. More information and tickets can be found here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/winterbrew-2024-at-santa-fe-farmers-market-tickets-746221989057?aff=oddtdtcreator
Next Social Meetup – I forgot to get suggestions for our next social night. I’ll send out a separate email about this. We could always have WinterBrew as the January social night since that’s a pretty big event that usually attracts several club members.
Custom Club AHA Renewal
I signed us up for the AHA referral program which gives our club a $5 kickback whenever someone joins or renews their membership through our custom link and enters SDCCB as the code. If you’ve let your membership lapse or haven’t signed up before, I’d encourage you to do so. You can find our custom URL here: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/support-the-aha/?promo=Sangre-de-Cristo-Craft-Brewers (note: you will still need to enter SDCCB as the code when you’re at that point in the sign up process).
