Hello, Santa Fe and Albuquerque homebrewers! Do you love saison? Here’s your chance to have your beer judged by two local pro brewers with a long history in the style:
John Rowley (Rowley Farmhouse Ales) and Averie Swanson (Keeping Together)
We encourage you to enter saison, but we are opening the competition to several other pale Belgian styles in hopes of getting more entries. We welcome the following BJCP categories:
- 24A: Witbier
- 25A: Belgian Blond Ale
- ✨ 25B: Saison ✨
- 25C: Belgian Golden Strong Ale
- 26A: Belgian Single
- 26C: Belgian Tripel
Note: Sour Belgian styles like lambic and gueuze will not be accepted. However, saisons with Brettanomyces are welcome. Please select category 25B when entering Brett saisons.
This competition will be judged based on overall appearance, aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel—not BJCP regulations. That means if your beer is delicious, you have a shot, even if it’s not strictly to style. You’re asked to indicate your target style, but only to let judges know what they’re tasting.
Your entries will also be tasted at a People’s Choice event in June, where a populist winner will be selected. That’s two chances to win, and we’ll have prizes for both events.

- Entries per person: 1 entry (6 cans or bottles – the number is based on having enough for both people’s choice and professional judging)
- Entry fee: $5
- Entry deadline: June 14, 2024 @ Southwest Grape and Grain, June 21st @ Rowley Farmhouse Ales
- Pro judging: June 23, 2024
- People’s Choice judging: June 22, 2024 (Location TBD)
- Dropoff locations: Rowley Farmhouse Ales or Southwest Grape and Grain
- Prizes: YETI Tundra 45 Cooler, Escarpment Labs, Imperial, Omega, and Lallemand yeast with supplies from Five Star Chemical
