Our 2024 Memorial Day campout happened at the Taos Junction campground, right next to the Rio Grande. Tom was quick to action and booked a group site that could hold 40 people, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to make it himself.
Friday night had Ben plus Brandon and his family. Ben brought his Ooni pizza oven and fired up four different pies which kept us filled while we drank several homebrewed and commercial beers.
Saturday morning we got up and went for a quick hike before Ben headed back home. As far as homebrewers went, it was just Brandon and his family for most of the day on Saturday until Aaron showed up late in the afternoon.
Sunday was a day on the water. We set up some cars for a shuttle and floated the Rio for a few miles while having some beers and enjoying the amazing views and weather.
The campsite was nicely located but thanks to the nearly cloudless sky and lack of shade structure, we both left Sunday after lunch. Had there been a shelter in the group site, it would have made it a lot easier to stick around and hang out. The location for starting a float was really nice though. It was a quick walk down across the Taos Junction bridge and you were at the boat launch.
I know there were a lot of last minute cancellations and unexpected things that popped up which kept people from making it out, but hopefully we can gain some more traction for next year!
